Thou shalt not prevent thy fellow man from altering his or her own consciousness.
"The fungi were placed on a table by the pool, I picked on up, it tasted even worse than it looked bitter, stringy. I began to feel strange, mildly nausious, detached. Everything was quivering with life, even inanimate objects. I gave way to the light and discovered a sea of possibilities, other realities. By that swimming pool I learned more about the mind than I had in 15 years as a diligent psychologist."

"People use the word 'natural'... what is natural to me are these botanical species which interact directly with the nervous system. What I consider artificial is 4 years at Harvard, and the Bible, and Saint Patrick's cathedral, and the sunday school teachings."
Timothy Leary
"Psychedelic experience is only a glimpse of genuine mystical insight, but a glimpse which can be matured and deepened by the various ways of meditation in which drugs are no longer necessary or useful. If you get the message, hang up the phone. For psychedelic drugs are simply instruments, like microscopes, telescopes, and telephones. The biologist does not sit with eye permanently glued to the microscope, he goes away and works on what he has seen..."

The Mushroom Speaks

The mushroom speaks, and our opinions rest upon what it tells eloquently of itself in the cool night of the mind:

"I am old, older than thought in your species, which is itself fifty times older than your history. Though I have been on earth for ages I am from the stars. My home is no one planet, for many worlds scattered through the shining disc of the galaxy have conditions which allow my spores an opportunity for life. The mushroom which you see is the part of my body given to sex thrills and sun bathing, my true body is a fine network of fibers growing through the soil.

These networks may cover acres and may have far more connections that the number in a human brain. My mycelial network is nearly immortal, only the sudden toxification of a planet or the explosion of its parent star can wipe me out. By means impossible to explain because of certain misconceptions in your model of reality all my mycelial networks in the galaxy are in hyperlight communication across space and time.

The mycelial body is as fragile as a spider's web but the collective hypermind and memory is a vast historical archive of the career of evolving intelligence on many worlds in our spiral star swarm. Space, you see, is a vast ocean to those hardy life forms that have the ability to reproduce from spores, for spores are covered with the hardest organic substance known. Across the aeons of time and space drift many spore-forming life-forms in suspended animation for millions of years until contact is made with a suitable environment. Few such species are minded, only myself and my recently evolved near relatives have achieved the hyper-communication mode and memory capacity that makes us leading members in the community of galactic intelligence.

How the hypercommunication mode operates is a secret which will not be lightly given to man. But the means should be obvious: it is the occurrence of psilocybin and psilocin in the biosynthetic pathways of my living body that opens for me and my symbiots the vision screens to many worlds. You as an individual and man as a species are on the brink of the formation of a symbiotic relationship with my genetic material that will eventually carry humanity and earth into the galactic mainstream of the higher civilizations.

Since it is not easy for you to recognize other varieties of intelligence around you, your most advanced theories of politics and society have advanced only as far as the notion of collectivism. But beyond the cohesion of the members of a species into a single social organism there lie richer and even more baroque evolutionary possibilities. Symbiosis is one of these. Symbiosis is a relation of mutual dependence and positive benefits for both of the species involved. Symbiotic relationships between myself and civilized forms of higher animals have been established many times and in many places throughout the long ages of my development. These relationships have been mutually useful; within my memory is the knowledge of hyperlight drive ships and how to build them.

I will trade this knowledge for a free ticket to new worlds around suns younger and more stable than your own. To secure an eternal existence down the long river of cosmic time I again and again offer this agreement to higher beings and thereby have spread throughout the galaxy over the long millennia. A mycelial network has no organs to move the world, no hands; but higher animals with manipulative abilities can become partners with the star knowledge within me and if they act in good faith, return both themselves and their humble mushroom teacher to the million worlds all citizens of our starswarm are heir to."

Dogma Daze

Excerpts from Christopher S. Hyatt & S.L. Slaughter's Dogma Daze (buy or dl)
36 pages of hilarious genius

Dogma Daze
Free yourself from guilt
Never let anyone make you feel bad again.

Dogma Junkies
Dogma is a drug -- and we are dogma addicts.
"But Doctor, what is Dogma?" "Well my dear, dogma is acting as though you possess absolute truth, even though you have no real facts to support your propaganda. Some words which are similar are -- dictatorial, stubborn, egotistical, bigoted, fanatical, intolerant, opinionated, overbearing, arrogant, stupid, despotic, and the list continues. But of course my dear, these terms do not apply to you."

WHEN YOU GO OUT FOR DINNER ORDER DOGMA

WHEN YOU GO OUT ANYTIME ORDER DOGMA --
BECAUSE YOU WILL GET IT ANYWAY

AT LEAST YOU WILL FEEL IN CONTROL

If someone spots you going into dogma withdrawal (that is doing something which is a lot of fun) you will be provided with a remedy - be it sympathy - advice - or electro-shock therapy.

Shut it off! Now I can see how your view is much more valid and sensible than mine!!

Dogma Speed
Dogma travels faster than the speed of light. If the speed of dogma transmission becomes sloweer than the speed of change then a nervous breakdown can occur. When this happens frantic attempts are made to find a fresh connection, such as a psychiatrist, who is a specialist in dogma breakdown and withdrawal. OR YOU CAN --- Watch TV. Have an affair. Go on a shopping spree. Throw a war. Get sick. Provoke an economic disaster. If that is not enough, you can start your own counter culture or if you're really brave you can start your own religion.

Intelligent Dogma
The most advanced DOGMA JUNKIES are of course the educated addicts. They "CHOOSE" their -- DOGMA -- carefully, not knowing of course that they're junkies. They evaluate themselves and others in terms of the logic-reason-justice - originality and obvious truth of their DOGMA. Their customary paraphernalia includes style, value, convention, common sense, good taste and consensus.

The CIA
International dogma protection -- this agency protects us against the dogma of other nations. According to some TV programs the CIA will use any device conceivable to protect us from the insidious peril which is encroaching --------- (Note: The publisher removed the remainder of the sentence.)

Through the Stargate with Sanctuary

Sanctuary is a series sure to have some interesting symbolism in it featuring Amanda Tapping, Stargate's Samantha Carter as Dr. Helen Magnus, an English (supposedly :p actors really need to stick to their own damn accent) doctor specializing in xenobiology and cryptozoology who seeks to help 'abnormals' by running the titular 'Sanctuary for All'.

She recruits Dr. Will Zimmerman (Robin Dunne), a forensic psychiatrist, to assist her in reaching people and gaining their trust so they can be helped. Other Sanctuary staff include Henry Foss (Ryan Robbins), a weapons designer & computer expert; and Ashley Magnus (Emilie Ullerup), Helen's daughter and self-proclaimed monster hunter.

I've seen three episodes, and I need to check those webisodes too which is how the show started (checking the first, woohoo Rodney McKay and more SG Atlantis folk, geez even the credits are better! Check the webisodes first! The show itself is not that great IMO). From the wiki: Although the show's creators initially said that the deal with the SciFi channel would not have an impact on the web access of the series, the webisodes are not currently available. Incredible & Duh... Every New Battlestar Galactica fan knows how well the SciFi channel gets along with webisodes. But they are on YouTube, which btw has switched to horrible black border widescreen, great, I guess I didn't hate the internet enough yet.

Speaking of BSG, Emilie Ullerup was in that too, in Sanctuary she's Monster Hunter Ashley Magnus and the following must be the hottest stargate symbolism I've seen yet :p

There be a stargate pond, with baddies approaching from the bottom
Reflection on the water surface of the skulled baddies
Gunshots emerge from under the water
What's this a-bubbling?

The World's First Bionic Burger

The World's First Bionic Burger - Bionicburger.com

From the vid: "True story about a man who's been saving hamburgers, cheeseburgers, and Big Macs from McDonalds for over 18 years... and they look EXACTLY the same!" (well, more or less)

Here's a test: Stop eating fast food for a month and eat healthy instead (this will make you feel good - as opposed to only your taste buds), then try to eat fast food again after that month and see how your body reacts the same & next day. I haven't eaten "fast food" in forever... cause it's not food.

Crisis? What Crisis?

Interesting article by Dave Fryett
"The economic mess that has been unfolding the last few months is not, as the right fear and the left hope, an organic collapse of the global capitalist system. But rather it is, as so many so-called financial crises before it, a scam perpetrated by what Lincoln used to call the "money power." The goals are to capture other lucrative businesses, reduce government and its ability to constrain its hegemony over capital, and to reduce union membership by creating such dire economic circumstances as to make unions powerless to save their members from hardship.

What we are experiencing is not the fall of the bourgeoisie, but its ascendancy to dictatorship. It is a charade, it's class war waged by a confidant, victorious bourgeoisie, not one on the verge of imminent ruin. In fact, the economic failure of the bourgeoisie, as things are currently constituted in the West, is an impossibility."

Through the Stargate with Dominion Tank Police

I watched the first 4-episode OVA of Dominion Tank Police. A 2-volume manga written and illustrated by Masamune Shirow (Ghost in the Shell, Appleseed) and turned into 3 OVA's.

Set in the fictional city of Newport, Japan (I partly grew up in Newport, Belgium ;p), in a future in which bacterial air pollution has become so severe that people must wear gas masks when outdoors (more about this later in the post), the series follows a police squadron that uses tanks.

Here is a shot of Leona and her boss in her little tank on the left, made from the scraps of her boss' tank which she wrecked ;p, and futuristic Newport on the right, Mushroom building and everything.

The first OVA was funny, action-packed and as usual in anime you barely know wtf is going on! (in a great way!) Without spoiling everything (barely), and after checking out this White Stripes Music vid set to some cool animation from the series, let's check out how we go through the stargate in this story:

Domnion Tank Police: 7 Nation Army AMV

Buaku, "We're Mad" is written at the place of the sleeping third eye.

Buaku is the super criminal the Tank Police was formed to fight, specializing in bank robbery and general mayhem. He leads a gang, but appears to be backed by unknown individuals. In the OVA Buaku's true origins are revealed in that he was a "prototype test dummy" for the Greenpeace Crolis project, who escaped destruction when government agents raided the lab and destroyed everything except for encoded data disguised as a nude portrait of himself.

Doctor talking about the Greenpeace Project: "The world is contaminated by the bacterial cloud, so this project is assumed national, no international, not to say global importance. We have already succeeded in creating a prototype lifeform capable of surviving in bacterially contaminated air, on the physical side then the project is incontestably a total success. The challenge we now face is to create a mental framework, completely human in form. At the moment the brains in our specimens exist, but they exist up till now only in a state I would term cognitive sterility... What we call their brains are made of microchips, replicas of adult human brains. We shall have the privilige of imprinting experience on them. 'Till now only God has known what it is to create human intellect from nothing. That's our task here, to create human intellect from nothing."

Buaku is helped by the Puma Twins, Anna Puma & Uni Puma who are a pair of tall, beautiful android catgirls (;p) who were created as "love dolls" to be marketed for profit, but they developed beyond this superficial programming and became criminals, joining forces with Buaku.

At the end of the first OVA, Buaku and the girls come upon a place where Buaku is led by his consciousness after having dreams featuring this:

Buaku's "dream" leads him to an abandoned lab...

"I was right, I knew I was right! The feeling was so strong it wasn't a dream.
Up there, that gentle green sea... peace." Buaku

Buaku climes it instinctively and reaches inside the stargate

The stargate activates

"Neither shame, nor anger, nor pain, nor bitterness." Buaku

and Greenpeace Crolis(/Chloris) appears

A mysterious green-skinned girl with wings (and I found out from the wiki: who's content as long as she's in a place with plenty of light. She was originally developed to counteract the bacteria-laden smog that covers the Earth: a humanoid "air purifier.") Can't wait to check out the rest of this series!

Expectations

"When I was 5 years old, my mom always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down “happy.” They told me I didn’t understand the assignment and I told them they didn’t understand life."

"Talking about magic with non-magicians is like talking to virgins about shagging. Reading about magic is like reading about sex: it will get you horny for the real thing but it won't give you nearly as much fun."

"Reform yourself and you will have reformed thousands around you."

"The true basis of religion is not belief, but intuitive experience. Intuition is the soul’s power of knowing God. To know what religion is really all about, one must know God."

Soulwax - Conversation Intercom

Stephen and David Dewaele are 2 brothers who play music as Soulwax (Rock Band), Soulwax Nite Versions (Remixes of their own music), Too Many DJ's (Remixes of other people's music - but also the name of a song by Soulwax ;p - and formerly known as The Flying/Fucking Dewaele Brothers.), etc :p. I saw their rockumentary DVD Part of the Weekend Never Dies yesterday about the tour where they perform with all 3 in a row, would recommended just for the fascinating way the brothers get along with each other. I formerly posted this and the NY Excuse song in this post. This song could be about reality tunnels and filtering communication:

Soulwax - Conversation Intercom

Time and time again
translation seems to sabotage the words
you know what is said is not what is heard
Damn this mean device
It makes a whispering-man-sound as if he cries
It's the pinnacle of what is typical

Conversation Intercom
you hear what I say but it comes out all wrong
Conversation Intercom
you say what I see still you speak in different tongues

Don't act like a fool
It makes you so uncool and that's what it does best
cause if anything it's just a temper-test
Fill in your own words yeah
1-800 Dial-to-be-heard
It's the pinnacle of what is cynical

Conversation Intercom
you hear what I say but it comes out all wrong
Conversation Intercom
you say what I see still you speak in different tongues

Clap your hands and you know what to do
my ear attends to you
as people listen intently
can you copy? do you receive?
Damn this mean device
It makes a whispering-man-sound as if he cries

Red Ice Live - Jake Kotze - "JC" Movie Synchromysticism

Grant Morrison answers

Grant Morrison about 2012, and the Pope.

"Beats me, who knows, maybe nothing," Morrison said. "But things are speeding up, information doubles exponentially toward this moment but the world's never ended yet, it may not end then. There's a lot of weird interesting things happening in 2012, planetary alignment. You might wake up one morning thinking you're on an acid trip that never ends. So if something happens I'll be there waiting with open arms!" (btw, we're in the sixth day, woo!)

Grant Morrison on Entheogens, Katmandu

One audience member asked about the effect of psychedelic drugs on Morrison's writing. "They were very big in The Invisibles." Morrison said that for years, he was completely straight edge but around the time he turned 30, he decided to do all the things he'd never done before, including transvestitism and "a lot of psychedelic drugs." He explained that the principle cast of The Invisibles were essentially five characters each based on elements of his own personality.

A fan then asked about how Morrison's experience in Katmandu--which famously informed a great deal of The Invisibles--has impacted the rest of his writing. "The Katmandu thing was really weird because I had taken a little bit of hash, but it was such a small bit and the experience I had was so profound and nothing like that has ever happened again." He explained that part of the idea of taking so many drugs in the '90s was trying to replicate that experience. "I tried all kinds of things to se if it was possible, and nothing took me to that place. It was something quite unusual and different and I was never able to get back there again."

What are Dimensions?

What are Dimensions?

Noam Chomsky: Capitalist Crisis, One-Party System, Obama's rethoric and Intellectual Conformism

The linguist and public intellectual Noam Chomsky has long been a critic of American consumerism and imperialism. SPIEGEL spoke to him about the current crisis of capitalism, Barack Obama's rhetoric and the compliance of the intellectual class. Some excerpts:

SPIEGEL: But is it correct to only put the blame on Wall Street? Doesn't Main Street, the American middle class, also live on borrowed money which may or may not be paid back?

Chomsky: The debt burden of private households is enormous. But I would not hold the individual responsible. This consumerism is based on the fact that we are a society dominated by business interests. There is massive propaganda for everyone to consume. Consumption is good for profits and consumption is good for the political establishment.

SPIEGEL: How does it benefit politicians when the populace drives a lot, eats a lot and goes shopping a lot?

Chomsky: Consumption distracts people. You cannot control your own population by force, but it can be distracted by consumption. The business press has been quite explicit about this goal.

SPIEGEL: “Change” is the slogan of this year’s presidential election. Do you see any chance for an immediate, tangible change in the United States? Or, to use use Obama’s battle cry: Are you "fired up”?

Chomsky: Not in the least. The European reaction to Obama is a European delusion.

SPIEGEL: But he does say things that Europe has long been waiting for. He talks about the trans-Atlantic partnership, the priority of diplomacy and the reconciling of American society.

Chomsky: That is all rhetoric. Who cares about that? This whole election campaign deals with soaring rhetoric, hope, change, all sorts of things, but not with issues.

SPIEGEL: Do you prefer the team on the other side: the 72 year old Vietnam veteran McCain and Sarah Palin, former Alaskan beauty queen?

Chomsky: This Sarah Palin phenomenon is very curious. I think somebody watching us from Mars, they would think the country has gone insane.

SPIEGEL: Is there nothing about McCain that appeals to you?

Chomsky: In one aspect he is more honest than his opponent. He explicitly states that this election is not about issues but about personalities. The Democrats are not quite as honest even though they see it the same way.

SPIEGEL: So for you, Republicans and Democrats represent just slight variations of the same political platform?

Chomsky: Of course there are differences, but they are not fundamental. Nobody should have any illusions. The United States has essentially a one-party system and the ruling party is the business party.

SPIEGEL: You exaggerate. In almost all vital questions -- from the taxation of the rich to nuclear energy -- there are different positions. At least on the issues of war and peace, the parties differ considerably. The Republicans want to fight in Iraq until victory, even if that takes a 100 years, according to McCain. The Democrats demand a withdrawal plan.

Chomsky: Let us look at the “differences” more closely, and we recognize how limited and cynical they are. The hawks say, if we continue we can win. The doves say, it is costing us too much. But try to find an American politician who says frankly that this aggression is a crime: the issue is not whether we win or not, whether it is expensive or not. Remember the Russian invasion of Afghanistan? Did we have a debate whether the Russians can win the war or whether it is too expensive? This may have been the debate at the Kremlin, or in Pravda. But this is the kind of debate you would expect in a totalitarian society. If General Petraeus could achieve in Iraq what Putin achieved in Chechnya, he would be crowned king. The key question here is whether we apply the same standards to ourselves that we apply to others.

SPIEGEL: Who prevents intellectuals from asking and critically answering these questions? You praised the freedom of speech in the United States.

Chomsky: The intellectual world is deeply conformist. Hans Morgenthau, who was a founder of realist international relations theory, once condemned what he called “the conformist subservience to power” on the part of the intellectuals. George Orwell wrote that nationalists, who are practically the whole intellectual class of a country, not only do not disapprove of the crimes of their own state, but have the remarkable capacity not even to see them. That is correct. We talk a lot about the crimes of others. When it comes to our own crimes, we are nationalists in the Orwellian sense. Read the entire interview at Spiegel

Great interview, but I don't agree with Chomsky (or anyone, really) on everything, like his ridiculous stances on 9/11 and JFK.

Thelemic analysis of Star Wars

Old usenet post. Subject: George Lucas a disciple of Aleister Crowley? From: Cavalorn - Newsgroups: alt.gothic - (source). Thelemic references in the Star Wars trilogy:

Crowley's secret name in the OTO was supposed to have been 'Phoenix' and the symbol of the Rebel Alliance is a stylised phoenix.

Crowley was OHO of the Order of Oriental Templars (OTO) and Lucas' original name for the Jedi Knights was the Jedi Templars.

The windows in the Emperor's chambers at the climax of Return of the Jedi spell 'OTO'. (Does the author mean these?)

From the Book of the Law, dictated to Crowley: 'the obeah and the wanga, the work of the wand and the work of the sword, these he shall learn and teach.' Obeah = Obi. Wanga = Wan. Thus, Obi-Wan. And what device is a wand one moment and a sword the next? A lightsaber, of course; and the relevance of 'learn and teach' is obvious, since Obi-Wan is the teacher.

Vader's sabre is red, the colour of the sphere of Geburah, or Severity: Obi-Wan's is blue, the colour of its opposing sphere, Chesed or Mercy.

Crowley makes references to 'the dwarf insane yet crafty' who is the source of true Wisdom, obviously a reference to Yoda.

The greatest ordeal in Crowley's A.'.A.'. system is the 'crossing of the abyss'. One reaches the brink of a great gulf and must either surrender everything one is and jump, or remain behind to become a 'black brother' or 'brother of the left hand path'. The 'crossing of the abyss' is foreshadowed in A New Hope, at the point at which Luke and Leia swing over the chasm, but is actually achieved in full in Empire Strikes Back, at the climax of the film.

In the climax of Empire, Luke's right hand is severed at the wrist, implying that he must take the left hand path and turn to the Dark Side, i.e. become a 'black brother'. Faced with the choice of crossing the Abyss or turning to the 'Left Hand Path', Luke chooses to jump, which is the act that redeems him from a future of corruption.

Luke is also the Horus figure, the avenger (as in Revenge of the Jedi, the original title). In the climax of Empire, Vader (previously identified with Set, the murderer of the father) is revealed to _be_ the father, the dark Osiris - this being the same secret that was revealed in the Egyptian Mysteries, namely that 'Osiris is a Black God!'

The 'Black Brethren' are those who have 'shut themselves up', become encased and closed off from the Universe, exactly as Vader is encased in black armour. Their sphere on the Tree of Life is the false sphere 'Da'ath', obviously the source for 'Darth'.

Vader out of his armour proves to be a bald guy with an English accent, uncannily reminiscent of Crowley.

Not convinced yet? Try this quote from one of Crowley's Holy Books, in which a part of the Star Wars universe is mentioned BY NAME:
'... Thy messenger was more terrible than the Death-star.'

The messenger of the Emperor is of course Vader, who possesses (and represents) a power far more terrible than the Death Star - the dark side of the Force itself. As Vader himself reminds his fellow Imperials, 'The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force.'

You might recognise this scene, too:
'the chamber was corrupt; the air stank... He enveloped me with his demon tentacles; yea, the eight fears took hold upon me.'
Garbage compactors, anyone? However, we all know what happened next:

'I slipped from the embrace as a stone from the sling of a boy of the woodlands. I was smooth and hard as ivory; the horror gat no hold.' Smooth and hard as ivory indeed, for Luke is wearing stormtrooper armour in that scene.

Well, George? Been having a bit of the old Do-what-thou-wilt, have we?

Cav (Source)

ps: this is every bit as serious as Crowley's own qabalistic analysis of nursery rhymes. ;)
